Larsens Tented Camp

Larsens Tented Camp was opened in 1987, and is set in lush lawns on the bank of the Uaso Nyiro, a river in Samburu National Reserve, 320 km north of Nairobi, Kenya, on the border of the old Northern Frontier Province. Tranquility and nature embrace you the minute you enter Larsens with the river being the perfect stage for an endless pageant of wildlife - elephants rolling and trumpeting in the shallows, timid impala nervously drinking, baboons and vervet monkeys swinging through the canopy of trees. The only man made noise is that of the young Samburu flutist as he slowly makes his way along the river front. He unobtrusively doubles as a palm nut thrower when the monkeys become too bold.

Accommodation And More at Larsens Tented Camp

Number of tents: 17 spacious airy tents all raised on wooden platforms, each being named after a bird.

Room Décor: This is camping in style with casual colonial elegance, hot showers and a surprising degree of comfort with toweling gowns in the tent and comfort able leather safari chairs.

Larsens Tented Safari Camp Meals and Relaxation

Dining - The dining tent is open on three sides and faces the river. A first class dinner elegantly served by candlelight on tables set with silver and Larsens china.

Tent Bar - In the bar, Eric Larsens old cabin trunks and pith helmets add to the period flavor while you play backgammon or chess on his original boards.

Larsens Lounge - For the rainy days of which there are very few, or for the evening that you can not sleep, a small `card' tent, stocks a number of board games and a library of magazines and wildlife books.

Swimming Pool - Larsens does not have a pool, guests are welcome to use this facility at the nearby Samburu Lodge free of charge.

The Camp Fire - Many a tale is exchanged around the fire each evening. Amidst the glow from the embers, the calls of the African night, a waft of cigar smoke and the kick of a White Mischief liqueur, game drives are relived and personal histories exchanged - it's a wonderful venue for making new friends and imbibing the essence of Africa as did the safari pioneers so many years ago.

Treehouse - An excellent place to enjoy a sundowner as you look out onto the plains as the animals walk by.

Samburu Dancing - This takes place in the Samburu Lodge arena each afternoon from 2.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.
